From the frenzied mind, body and spirit of Pig Iron Theatre Company cofounder Dito van Reigersberg comes Martha Graham Cracker. Backed by a live band, Martha croons this music-driven fever-dream of a performance about a life of hard living and even harder loving.
The dazzling drag-cabaret darling excavates her distorted past, belting out original tunes and dishing ridiculous stories and side-splitting asides. Roughed up and worked over, Martha comes up with an unusual plan to barricade herself from loves lost, but not forgotten: tonight is the night she will bury her heart.
Martha Graham Cracker/Dito van Reigersberg
Hailing from the City of Brotherly Love and a regular at Joe's Pub, Martha Graham Cracker is the tallest, hairiest drag queen in the world. Her monthly cabaret series at L'Etage in Philadelphia has been running for over 12 years now. From inventing a new form of exercise-- bartop Pilates-- to channeling Chaka Khan, to making her shameless sexual advances on hapless audience members, she is a revolution in a wig. Martha's musical stylings are presented regularly at Joe's Pub, the Kimmel Center, the Trocadero, The Walker Art Center, Oberon in Boston, The TLA, the Mayor's Reception Room at City Hall, the Sofitel, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Martha is contained within the body of Dito van Reigersberg, one of the co-founders of the OBIE-winning Pig Iron Theatre Company.
Commissioned and originally produced by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
